JAKARTA: The main problems that constantly bedevil the capital city are its transportation system, flooding and garbage disposal. Unfortunately, the city administration and bureaucracy have never come up with any workable solutions to these problems, allowing them instead to grow and develop into a time bomb that could explode at any moment.

This teeming city produces an estimated 23,400 cubic metres of garbage per day. However, the city sanitation office can dispose of only 14,700 cu metres of it at the dump.
