IT IS sickening to learn the Sabah government is caught in debts and commitments running to some RM5bil as disclosed by Chief Minister Datuk Chong Kah Kiat, “Sabah running debts up to RM5bil” (The Star, Dec 31).

We are puzzled at how a state, once rich in natural resources, could now face such a sorrowful situation. The National Auditing Department should carry out a thorough investigation into improprieties such as mismanagement, unscrupulous acts and possible embezzlements.
