Society needs its fringe activists to effect change and act as a conscience, but do they have any sort of support system?

One of the most iconic moments of the late 20th century was that of a single protester standing in the way of a column of tanks about to go in to Tiananmen Square to crush a popular student-led protest. Ever wonder what possessed him to do such a thing? It has been nearly 25 years but his identity and fate remain unknown.
