Focus on the policies, not the politics

BEING true to the nerd that I am, I spent my Christmas holidays watching the London production of Hamilton. For those not in the know, Alexander Hamilton was one of America’s founding fathers and was the first American Treasury Secretary (i.e. Finance Minister) responsible for the formation of the modern financial system as we know it. His life story is now told through an award-winning, ethnically inclusive hip hop musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Hamilton overcame insurmountable struggles, from the stigma of illegitimate birth and being an immigrant who depended on the kindness of strangers to fund his education, to playing a pivotal role not only in the American Revolution but the harder task of forming a new nation, where he orchestrated the written debate that led to the US Constitution (termed the Federalist Papers), thus providing a foundation for a fledgling nation.
