'Catch' yet to be verified

News that hundreds of 'Malaysian' fisherman were arrested in Indonesian waters last month sent officials scurrying for verification. To date Jakarta has yet to give any proof.

IT could have made headline news, judging from the information given by Andi Widjajanto, Indonesia’s newly-elected Cabinet secretary – that 200 Malaysian fishermen were arrested in Indonesian waters.

When a foreign news agency flashed the story “Indonesia holds 200 Malaysians in crackdown on illegal fishing” on Nov 19, calls were made to relevant Malaysian agencies to confirm the news.
