ONCE a leader in the global struggle for gender equality, Australia has in recent years resiled from its commitment to address the issues of equal opportunities between men and women and sex-based differences.
Unfortunately, neither the Liberal-National Coalition nor the Labour Party has indicated its willingness to reconsider gender equality as an essential component of the Australian democracy, according to researchers Sarah Maddison of the University of New South Wales and Emma Paltridge of the University of Technology in Sydney.
