Vendor gives watermelon slices to heat-stricken students

AN elderly fruit vendor in Sri Gading, Johor, has touched the hearts of many by giving away free slices of watermelon to students in the scorching heat.

A video shared on TikTok by user ‘een_naa’ shows the vendor at a school entrance, happily distributing watermelon slices from the back of his truck.

The students are also seen showing their gratitude, reported China Press.

The man’s act of kindness has sparked widespread appreciation, with many expressing admiration for his generosity, likening his treatment of the students to how one would care for their own grandchildren.

Sharp-eyed enforcement officers identified the violation and impounded the car on the spot.

According to Oriental Daily, the department said all vehicle owners must comply with the law and urged them to renew their road tax and insurance.

Oriental Daily also reported that local authorities were there to introduce funeral policy reforms, not enforce any cremation orders.

Realising the distress caused, officials issued a formal apology, admitting the situation highlighted the urgent need for clearer and more sensitive communication with grieving families.
