Tamil radio row sparks artiste and fan fury

LOCAL Indian artistes and fans are up in arms after a radio station seemingly sidelined popular Tamil programmes, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The matter was raised by local Indian artistes and industry figures during their monthly meeting on April 5.

The 40-strong gathering asserted that the channel has long abandoned many Tamil programmes.

Former radio producers, DJs and veteran artistes spoke out during the gathering.

> School canteen workers in Tamil Nadu attacked a student with a broom for asking for an egg with his meal, Makkal Osai reported.

The student at the state government-run primary school in Polur apparently asked for the egg as part of the school lunch, but the workers refused – claiming some of the eggs supplied had gone bad.

They then allegedly promised to give it to him the next day but the dissatisfied student was unhappy and argued with the workers.

One of the cooks and the helper chased and caught the boy, while another cook hit the student twice with a broomstick.

The three workers admitted to their actions and were suspended by district education officials.
