A COUPLE in Perak had a European bridesmaid and a South American best man for their wedding, reported Harian Metro.
It was a sight to behold when Sharul Hafiz Zam, 35, and his wife Nor Azila Azman, 34, were accompanied by their friends who were decked out in traditional Malay outfits during the bersanding ceremony (sitting together on the bridal dais).
Sharul said he had asked Carole Dewandre, 25, from Belgium, and Nahuel Zanetti, 27, from Argentina, to be part of his bridal party.
“I have known them since five years ago when I was working in Langkawi as a photographer.
“My wife and I decided to invite them to be part of our bridal party so they would have a chance to experience the culture of the Malay community, ” he said.
Dewandre said the opportunity to be part of a Malay wedding was a meaningful one for her.
> The fog was no obstacle to Fire and Rescue Department personnel who used their helicopter to transport an Orang Asli woman who was in labour to a nearby hospital, the daily also reported.
They had flown into Kampung Lalok in Pos Bihai near Gua Musang, Kelantan, to transport Zaharah Asop, 34, to Hospital Gua Musang.
The department’s air unit’s public relations officer at Subang base, Asst Supt Mohd Farhan Marzuki, said the helicopter took off from Subang at 9am on Monday, after receiving a report from the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) about the woman’s condition.
“The woman had been ill for three days and was about to give birth to her third child, but her village was far from the city, ” he said.
The copter, he said, had to be flown at about 760m above sea level due to the thick fog.
“Alhamdulilah (Praise God), no untoward incidents occurred and all went well, ” he said.
