Saudi Arabia, Türkiye sign MoU on railway cooperation


RIYADH, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to strengthen cooperation in the railway sector, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The MoU was signed in Riyadh by Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser and Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu.

According to SPA, the agreement aims to enhance cooperation in railway standards, technologies and innovations, while promoting the exchange of expertise in the design, operation and maintenance of railway projects.

The two sides will also cooperate in engineering development, railway infrastructure, safety standards, transport integration and efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the railway sector.

The MoU covers research and development activities, technical exchanges and the adoption of advanced technologies to improve the operational efficiency of Saudi Arabia's railway sector.

It also seeks to strengthen cooperation in workforce development through specialized railway academies, while supporting the localization of railway-related industries, according to the report.
