Canada's international trade up in April

OTTAWA, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Canada's merchandise exports increased 1.6 percent, while imports edged up 0.3 percent in April, Statistics Canada said Tuesday.

The country's trade surplus widened to 2.7 billion Canadian dollars (about 1.9 billion U.S. dollars) in April, the largest since January 2025, said the national statistical agency.

According to the agency, following a surge of 10.1 percent in March, total exports increased 1.6 percent in April to a record high of 75.2 billion Canadian dollars.

When trade in goods and services is combined, exports increased 1 percent to 95.8 billion Canadian dollars in April, while imports rose 0.5 percent to 92.9 billion Canadian dollars, said Statistics Canada. (1 U.S. dollar equals 1.40 Canadian dollars)
