Kyrgyzstan's rail freight volume reaches record high in 2025

BISHKEK, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The volume of rail freight transport in Kyrgyzstan in 2025 exceeded 10 million tonnes, reaching a record high in the history of the country's railway system, the state railway company Kyrgyz Temir Zholu reported Tuesday.

According to the report, Kyrgyzstan's average annual rail freight volume had remained at around 7 million tonnes for many years.

However, a steady growth trend has been observed since 2022, and by the end of 2024, rail freight transport reached 9.2 million tonnes, the report said.

The growth in transportation volume is driven by a number of factors related both to production activity and to the development of railway corridors and routes, it said.
