U.S. dollar closes flat

NEW YORK, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar closed almost flat in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped 0.001 percent to 97.941 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1775 dollars from 1.179 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3496 dollars from 1.3497 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.02 Japanese yen, lower than 156.2 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar added to 0.7886 Swiss francs from 0.7877 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3676 Canadian dollars from 1.3694 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar advanced to 9.1713 Swedish kronor from 9.1684 Swedish kronor.
