NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- An explosion rocked a nursing home in the northeastern U.S. state of Pennsylvania Tuesday afternoon, leaving residents trapped, local media reported.

The explosion at Silver Lake Healthcare Center, in Bristol Township, left a portion of the building collapsed with multiple injuries, according to a USA Today report.

First responders took at least three elderly residents out on gurneys, the report said.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known, and authorities did not immediately say what the extent of injuries was or whether there were fatalities.

In a social media post, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said he had been briefed on the incident at the nursing home in Bucks County, and his administration was in contact with local officials and first responders on the ground.
