2 killed, 10 injured in road accident in Pakistan's Punjab province

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Two women were killed and 10 others injured when a passenger van collided with a truck in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, rescue officials said on Wednesday.

The accident occurred late Tuesday night near Hasan Abdal city in Attock district, when a van traveling from Rawalpindi to Mansehra crashed into a truck coming from the opposite direction, state-run Rescue 1122 said in a statement.

Five of the injured, who were in critical condition, were shifted to Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi for specialized treatment, the rescue service said.

Road accidents are frequent in Pakistan, mainly due to reckless driving, poor road conditions, and lax enforcement of traffic regulations.
