KABUL, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,382 Afghan refugee families, totaling 7,969 individuals, returned to their homeland from neighboring Iran and Pakistan on Monday, Afghanistan's High Commission for Addressing Returnees Problems announced Tuesday.
The returnees crossed into Afghanistan through the Islam Qala border crossing in western Herat province, the Torkham border crossing in eastern Nangarhar province, the Spin Boldak border crossing in southern Kandahar province, and the Abrisham border crossing in western Nimroz province, it said.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 700,000 Afghans have been expelled from Pakistan and over 2 million others from Iran since the start of 2025.
Around 6 million Afghan refugees, most of whom are undocumented, are currently living abroad, with most living in Iran and Pakistan, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said in a report in late July.
