Major U.S. stock indexes hit new highs


NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Major U.S. stock indexes reached new highs Monday, following a strong week that saw the indexes close at record highs Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 337.47 points, or 0.71 percent, to 47,544.59. The S&P 500 added 83.47 points, or 1.23 percent, to 6,875.16, closing above the 6,800 level for the first time. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 432.59 points, or 1.86 percent, to 23,637.46.
