U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.14 percent to 97.846 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro slipped to 1.1721 dollars from 1.1735 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3447 dollars from 1.3486 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 147.21 Japanese yen, higher than 147.09 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.7977 Swiss francs from 0.7971 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3963 Canadian dollars from 1.3940 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.4027 Swedish kronor from 9.3704 Swedish kronor.
