BEIRUT, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and five others injured Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike targeting a vehicle in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) and security sources.

The NNA reported that an Israeli drone struck a Range Rover in the town of Kafra, located in the central sector of the southern border area.

Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center confirmed the strike resulted in one death and five injuries. A Lebanese army intelligence source identified the deceased as Ali Qaraouni, a local Hezbollah official.

In a separate incident, the NNA said an Israeli drone dropped several bombs near a stone factory on the outskirts of the village of Yaroun in the Bint Jbeil district.

Since November 27, 2024, a U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has been in effect, largely halting the clashes triggered by the Gaza war. Despite the truce, the Israeli army continues to conduct occasional strikes in Lebanon, citing operations against Hezbollah "threats," while maintaining forces at five main positions along the Lebanese border.
