NOUAKCHOTT, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Beni Nadji raw water pre-treatment station project, located in Mauritania's Trarza region and constructed by a Chinese company, was inaugurated on Monday.

More than 300 people attended the ceremony, including Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation Amal Mint Maouloud, as well as representatives from partner institutions and Chinese enterprises.

In her speech, Maouloud noted that climate change affects every country and Mauritania is no exception. In recent years, increasing sediment levels in the Senegal River have severely impacted water supply for Nouakchott, the country's capital.

She hailed the completion of the project within just seven months as a demonstration of the contractor's outstanding capability and sincere commitment.

Chinese Ambassador to Mauritania Tang Zhongdong said Chinese enterprises have shown efficiency, quality, and a strong sense of responsibility, ensuring the timely delivery of a key livelihood project for Mauritania.

He added that China stands ready to work with Mauritania to further deepen cooperation in various fields, build more projects that directly benefit local people, and inject new momentum into bilateral relations.

The new station, built by a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China with a designed daily capacity of 255,000 cubic meters, is equipped with six sets of high-density sedimentation tanks, a central control room, and intake and outflow structures.

Featuring multiple key technologies, the facility can operate reliably in high-temperature and dusty environments, effectively easing Nouakchott's drinking water shortage, reducing waterborne diseases, and providing a reference for raw water treatment in arid regions of Africa.
