U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped 0.08 percent to 97.264 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.1811 dollars from 1.1797 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.3517 dollars from 1.3517 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 147.59 Japanese yen, lower than 147.73 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar declined to 0.7916 Swiss francs from 0.7925 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.3850 Canadian dollars from 1.3821 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.3328 Swedish kronor from 9.3552 Swedish kronor.
