Floods in northeast Romania kill 3, force mass evacuations

BUCHAREST, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Severe flooding in northeastern Romania has left three people dead and forced hundreds to evacuate, authorities said Monday.

All fatalities occurred in Suceava County, where victims were found in the Neagra and Bistrita river areas. In Ostra, emergency crews rescued eight people trapped by floodwaters.

In nearby Neamt County, nearly 900 people were evacuated, though no deaths were reported.

Flooding affected 25 areas across nine counties, damaging roads and property. The worst-hit areas were Suceava and Neamt.
