U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, July 18 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped 0.26 percent to 98.481 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1622 dollars from 1.1584 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.3417 dollars from 1.3410 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 148.77 Japanese yen, higher than 148.73 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.8017 Swiss francs from 0.8057 Swiss francs, and it fell to 1.3726 Canadian dollars from 1.3750 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.6785 Swedish kronor from 9.7572 Swedish kronor.
