U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, July 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 88.14 points, or 0.20 percent, to 44,459.65. The S&P 500 added 8.81 points, or 0.14 percent, to 6,268.56. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 54.8 points, or 0.27 percent, to 20,640.33.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with communication services and financials leading the gainers by rising 0.73 percent and 0.67 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and materials led the laggards by going down 1.2 percent and 0.44 percent, respectively.
