MOSCOW, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Losses from IT-related crimes in Russia have exceeded to 81 billion rubles (about 1.03 billion U.S. dollars) in the first five months of 2025, deputy head of the Investigative Department at the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Danil Filippov said on Wednesday.
More than 308,000 IT-related crimes were registered in that period, including over 189,000 involving remote theft and fraud, said Filippov at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
He reported that around 16 billion rubles (about 203.4 million U.S. dollars) in funds linked to cybercriminals had been frozen since the beginning of the year. "It is clear that when comparing the damage caused and the arrested amount, it is not that much, but nevertheless, we were able to help someone."
Filippov further emphasized that proactive measures are already underway to tackle cyber fraud. "We have implemented a range of initiatives, including technological safeguards within enterprises, personal data protection mechanisms, and, most crucially, public engagement and preventive efforts. These foundational elements are expected to deliver tangible outcomes."
