Lukashenko says Belarus' sales of potash fertilizers reached pre-sanction levels

MINSK, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The sale of Belarusian potash fertilizers has reached pre-sanction levels, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday while visiting the mining and processing complex in Lyuban district.

The Belarusian leader said it is impossible to restrain the development of any country by sanctions.

Lukashenko recalled that those who impose sanctions once advocated for globalization. "How can one break any chain today? It is impossible," the president said.

The President paid attention to the fact that mineral fertilizers will always be needed.

Belarusian relations with Western countries worsened after the 2020 presidential elections. A new stage of sanctions expansion occurred after the start of a special operation in Ukraine. Restrictions were imposed on both Belarusian officials and enterprises and industries, including potash.

On May 22, the European Parliament approved protective duties on Russian and Belarusian potash fertilizers, despite concerns from large European agricultural producers about the negative impact of such a decision on the European market.
