U.S. dollar ticks down


NEW YORK, May 21 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.56 percent to 99.555 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro climbed to 1.1333 U.S. dollars from 1.1273 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.3428 dollars from 1.3379 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 143.64 Japanese yen, lower than 144.55 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar lost to 0.8251 Swiss francs from 0.8298 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.3841 Canadian dollars from 1.3930 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar dropped to 9.5639 Swedish Kronor from 9.6540 Swedish Kronor.
