Italy's inflation holds at 1.9 pct in April


ROME, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Prices in Italy rose by 1.9 percent in April, according to the country's main statistics entity on Friday, slightly lower than preliminary data released more than two weeks ago and up 0.1 percent compared to March.

The annualized rate was identical at 1.9 percent in March and April -- the first time it has remained unchanged so far in 2025. It was also unchanged between November and December of last year, but it has not actually declined since falling from 1.1 percent to 0.7 percent between August and September of last year. The September rate was the lowest recorded in Italy since it was 0.6 percent in December 2023.

ISTAT, Italy's National Statistics Institute, said the main factors pushing prices higher in April were increases in prices for food and personal care products, while energy prices were slightly lower.

Core inflation, excluding prices for energy and unprocessed food, was 2.1 percent in April compared to a 1.7 percent rise in March.
