PRAGUE, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Teachers and residents gathered in southern Czech city of Ceske Budejovice on Wednesday to celebrate the International Chinese Language Day.

The event, themed "Chinese Language: A Gift Across Time and Space," was held at the Confucius Classroom of the Institute of Technology and Business in Ceske Budejovice (VSTE). It featured a variety of performances by students and teachers from the Confucius Classroom, including classical Chinese dance, face-painting from Sichuan opera, and martial arts.

Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in hands-on cultural experiences such as Chinese calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, paper cutting, and other traditional Chinese crafts.

At the event, Hao Hong, cultural counselor at the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic, said that the Chinese language is not only a crucial vector of Chinese culture, but also a bridge for mutual understanding and cooperation among people around the world.

Through the event, more Czech people will come to know and learn the Chinese language and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, she added.

Noting that Chinese language plays an important role in fostering cultural understanding, Vojtech Stehel, vice rector of VSTE, said he believes the event will "help us understand each other better" and advance further along the path of collaboration.

Czech primary school teacher, Gabriela, said "As a teacher, I really enjoy events with such a rich cultural atmosphere. By partaking, we not only learn Chinese but also gain insight into China's history and traditional culture."
