Ten-man Tigres beats Cruz Azul to eye summit in Liga MX

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Diego Lainez and Joaquim Henrique scored second-half goals as 10-man Tigres UANL underlined their title credentials with a 2-1 home victory over Cruz Azul in the Liga MX on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead when Lainez rifled a long-range effort into the bottom-right corner after Romulo Zwarg's pass.

Henrique made it 2-0 by bundling home from close range following Ozziel Herrera's corner.

Tigres suffered a blow in the 65th minute as Nicolas Ibanez was shown a straight red card for a bad tackle on Kevin Mier.

Ignacio Rivero pulled a goal back with a 98th-minute strike but it was too little too late as Tigres recorded its fifth win of the campaign.

The Nuevo Leon outfit is now second in the 18-team Liga MX standings, behind leaders America on goal difference.
