LJUBLJANA, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's industrial output fell by 1.2 percent in 2024, marking the second consecutive year of decline, the country's Statistical Office reported on Monday.

In 2023, industrial output dropped by 5.3 percent compared to the previous year.

The biggest annual fall in 2024 was recorded in the electricity, gas and steam sector, which fell by 21.5 percent. In contrast, mining saw the largest increase, rising by 14.3 percent.

On a monthly basis, industrial output in December rose by 1.2 percent from November.

"The total value of industrial production increased by 3.2 percent in mining when compared to November, by 1.4 percent in manufacturing and fell by 7.1 percent in electricity, gas and steam supply," the office said in a report.

Over the past two years, the Slovenian industry has been suffering due to lower global demand for its products, particularly from other European Union (EU) countries.

Slovenia, which joined the EU in 2004, relies on the bloc for more than half of its exports. The country's key export sectors include automobiles, car parts, pharmaceuticals, and household appliances.
