SARAJEVO, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) welcomed nearly 2 million tourist arrivals in 2024, marking a 10.3 percent increase from the previous year, the national statistics agency reported on Friday.

A total of 1,935,745 tourists visited BiH, with overnight stays exceeding 4 million, up 8.5 percent year-on-year. The growth was particularly notable among foreign visitors, who accounted for 70.5 percent of total overnight stays.

Tourists from Croatia made up 13.9 percent of overnight stays, followed by those from Serbia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Germany, the United States, and China, which contributed 3.4 percent.

Chinese tourist arrivals surged to 74,996 in 2024, marking a 145 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Haris Fazlagic, president of the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton, attributed the rise to the visa-free policy between BiH and China. Noting that Chinese tourists are increasing in Sarajevo and other major cities, he expects their numbers to continue growing in the coming years.
