U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.56 percent to 107.444 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.0495 U.S. dollars from 1.0423 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.2483 dollars from 1.2360 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 155.82 Japanese yen, higher than 155.81 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.9060 Swiss francs from 0.9068 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.4343 Canadian dollars from 1.4362 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 10.9267 Swedish Kronor from 11.0035 Swedish Kronor.
