Paris: The Eiffel Tower was temporarily evacuated on Tuesday (Dec 24) after a short circuit hit the Parisian landmark.

The fire alarm was triggered in the morning due to a short circuit in a lift shaft, reported French broadcaster BFMTV.

The problem occurred between the second floor and the top of the Eiffel Tower. Visitors were not in any danger.

The world-famous landmark was due to reopen later in the day - but only up to the second floor, the Le Parisien newspaper reported.

The cause of the short circuit was initially unclear. – DPA
