SARAJEVO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Police arrested four individuals on Tuesday during an operation targeting migrant smuggling in the Bihac area of northern Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) reported.

Searches were conducted at three locations, and the suspects face charges of "Human Smuggling" and "Organizing a Group for Migrant Smuggling" under Bosnia's Criminal Code. They will be handed over to the Prosecutor's Office of BiH for further proceedings.

SIPA disclosed that earlier in the investigation, five individuals had already been apprehended in Bihac and Sarajevo. Along with those arrested in Tuesday's operation, the organized group is accused of smuggling over 250 migrants, primarily of Turkish and Kurdish origin, across the border since July. The illegal activities reportedly generated profits exceeding 100,000 euros (105,105 U.S. dollars).

SIPA highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation in dismantling migrant smuggling networks.
