ABUJA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least 115 suspected terrorists, including a most wanted terrorist commander, were killed in recent army operations in the northern part of Nigeria, military authorities said Thursday.

Edward Buba, spokesman for the Nigerian military, told reporters in the capital city of Abuja that the operations, which led to the killing of Munzur Ya Audu, a notorious terrorist commander, and 114 others in the country's northern region, all took place in the past week and were "well executed."

A total of 238 other terrorists were arrested during the period, while troops also rescued 138 hostages held by criminal groups.

"Serious efforts have been emplaced to dismantle the capabilities as well as destroy the networks of the terror groups," Buba said, noting that the deployed force actively targeted terrorist logistics bases and other structures affiliated with terror groups.

He added that 145 assorted weapons and 3,825 ammunition were also seized during the raids.
