WARSAW, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- A series of events were held across Poland on Monday to celebrate the Independence Day.

The main celebrations of the Independence Day began at noon, with the participation of Polish President Andrzej Duda, Speaker of Poland's lower house of parliament Szymon Holownia, and Speaker of Poland's upper house of parliament Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska.

Across Poland, celebrations like concerts and firework displays were held to mark the day.

In Warsaw, around 19,000 people participated in a running race, and there was also an Independence March in which more than 100,000 people were estimated to have taken part in. "Interest is higher than in previous years," said the organizers of the march.
