U.S. stocks close mixed

NEW YORK, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 140.53 points, or 0.36 percent, to 39,357.01. The S&P 500 added 0.23 points, or 0.00 percent, to 5,344.39. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 35.31 points, or 0.21 percent, to 16,780.61.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with real estate and communication services leading the laggards by losing 0.64 percent and 0.62 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and energy led the gainers by rising 0.92 percent and 0.49 percent, respectively.
