Olympics | Norway upset France to win women's handball gold

LILLE, France, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Norway stunned defending champions France 29-21 here on Saturday to win the women's handball gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games.

With a fantastic defense, Norway secured their third Olympic Games title in history, upsetting the hosts in front of a record-breaking attendance for a women's handball match of 26,664 spectators.

France built a 4-1 lead before Norway stormed to score four straight goals. The game seesawed and Norway led 15-13 after the first half.

The second half saw Norway performed a solid defense which allowed the hosts to score only three goals in the first 15 minutes. Norway kept increasing their advantage and led all the way to the final whistle.

An earlier match witness Denmark beat Sweden 30-25 to win the bronze medal.
