U.S. stocks close higher

NEW YORK, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 294.39 points, or 0.76 percent, to 38,997.66. The S&P 500 added 53.70 points, or 1.04 percent, to 5,240.03. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 166.77 points, or 1.03 percent, to 16,366.85.

All of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with real estate and financials leading the gainers by adding 2.30 percent and 1.46 percent, respectively. Energy posted the weakest growth, up by 0.40 percent.
