PARIS, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Host France successfully defended their mixed team title at the Paris Olympics here on Saturday.

The mixed team event, featuring a best-of-seven-set format, made its debut at the Tokyo Olympics, where France won the inaugural title by defeating Japan 4-1.

French judo legend Teddy Riner clinched the gold in the men's +100kg category on Friday. He also played a vital role in securing a thrilling 4-3 victory over Japan in the mixed team final, as the 35-year-old Riner won the tie-breaker against Japan's Tatsuru Saito with an ippon.

South Korea and Brazil shared the mixed team bronze.
