PARIS, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The United States secured their second consecutive victory in men's volleyball at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, defeating Germany in a five-set thriller, while hosts France also extended their winning streak.
The U.S. started strong, taking the first two sets, but Germany fought back to level the match after four sets. In the decisive fifth set, the U.S. regained their composure and eventually won the game by 25-21, 25-17, 17-25, 20-25, 15-11.
Moritz Karlitzek got a match-high 21 points for Germany, which wasn't enough to earn his team the victory. The U.S. had a balanced attack with five players scoring in double digits, Torey Defalco led the team with 18 points.
"The fact that we were in the fifth set was bad, but that we woke up from our nap and showed how we played in the first two sets, that was good. That's what I am pride at," said Defalco.
In another match, France defeated Canada in straight sets of 25-20, 25-21, 25-17, stretching their impressive form in the Games.
Elsewhere, Italy cruised past Egypt with a 3-0 victory, while Slovenia defeated Serbia also in straight sets.
