KAMPALA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The goalkeeper of Uganda national women's soccer team, Daphine Nyayenga, has joined Danish Women's League side, Fortuna Hjorring.

The talented goalkeeper told Xinhua on Tuesday that she is happy to join the Danish team on a two-year contract.

"This is a dream come true because this will give me the chance to compete against high-level teams," said the 19-year-old.

Nyayenga moved to a second Division side Boldklubben of Denmark in 2023 from Uganda Women's Premier League side, She Corporate.

Nyayenga helped She Corporate win the 2021/22 FUFA Women's Super League championship and also played in the CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA Zonal qualifiers held in Kenya in 2021.

The goalkeeper has spell with the Ugandan national team set-up, having played for the U-17, U-20 and senior team (Crested Cranes).

Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi, one of the Ugandan coaches who has been involved with women's football over the years, told Xinhua that he is happy about the development that Nyayenga has joined a top team in Denmark.

"This is very good for Nyayenga, but also good for Uganda because it opens more opportunities for other Ugandan players to be spotted for the professional stage," said Kiyingi who coached Uganda at the 2022 African Women's Championship in Morocco.

The other Ugandan players in Denmark include Aisha Nantongo and Vanessa Edith Karungi playing for FC Nordsjaelland, and Phiona Nabbumba representing B93 FC.
