JOHANNESBURG, July 4 (Xinhua) -- South Africa has recorded 100 consecutive days of no loadshedding on Thursday as the country's electricity generation and available power for distribution continued to rise.
Electricity production increased by 5.6 percent year-on-year in May, according to the data released by the Statistics South Africa on Thursday.
Seasonally adjusted electricity generation increased by 1.1 percent in the three months ended May compared with the previous three months, the department said.
Electricity distribution also increased in May, which was 4.8 percent higher than the same period last year, the data showed.
Eskom, South Africa's power entity, said in a recent statement that the last instance of such an extended period of loadshedding suspension dated back to three years ago, and it has attributed the stable power supply to efforts in enhancing the performance of coal generation fleet.
