VIENNA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The Austrian capital Vienna has been named the world's most pleasant city to live in for the third year in a row, according to a report published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) on Thursday.

Vienna received perfect scores of 100 for stability, healthcare, education and infrastructure, although its score for culture and environment was 93.5 due to the lack of major sporting events, according to EIU's annual Global Liveability Index report.

With Copenhagen, Zurich and Geneva ranked among the top five liveable cities on the list, Western Europe "has retained its position as the most liveable region in the world." However, the report said the region had seen the biggest fall in liveability score compared to other regions owing to deteriorating stability.

Other cities making the top 10 include Melbourne, Calgary, Sydney, Vancouver, Osaka and Auckland.

This year's EIU report is based on the liveability assessment of 173 cities worldwide through five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
