Over 110,000 securities accounts opened in Vietnam in April

HANOI, May 9 (Xinhua) -- A total of 110,761 new securities accounts were opened in Vietnam in April, raising the total number of domestic securities accounts in the country to over 7.7 million, local media reported Thursday, citing the Vietnam Securities Depository.

The number of newly opened accounts was nearly 53,000 lower than in March, marking it the lowest number of securities accounts added in the first four months of 2024, said the report.

The increase in April was mostly driven by individual investors, who opened 110,622 new accounts, while institutional investors saw a modest increase of 139 accounts, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Vietnam aims to have 9 million securities trading accounts on the stock market by 2025 and 11 million accounts by 2030 under the Securities Market Development Strategy.
