Mongolia's coal exports up over 27 pct

ULAN BATOR, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia exported 24.9 million tons of coal in the first four months of 2024, up 27.1 percent compared to the same period in 2023, the country's Ministry of Finance said Thursday.

Mongolia is rich in natural resources, and the mining sector has been one of the main drivers of the country's economic growth for years.

Coal is a main export commodity of the landlocked Asian country, which has set itself the goal of exporting at least 60 million tons of coal this year.

The country exported 66.7 million tons in 2023, hitting a historic high.
