COLOMBO, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan government has planned to designate 49 additional locations as official tourism zones, State Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage said here on Monday.

She said in a press conference that these locations will be published in a gazette within a month as part of the government's efforts to boost tourism.

Gamage also announced plans to establish a dedicated committee tasked with preventing and monitoring fraud and corruption within the tourism sector.

She added that the government is streamlining the process of purchasing tickets online and taking further steps to enhance online systems to improve the ease of traveling in Sri Lanka for tourists.

Tourism is one of the key foreign exchange revenue earners for Sri Lanka. In 2023, Sri Lanka's tourism revenues totaled around 2.1 billion U.S. dollars, official data show.
