FTSE 100 closes at another closing, intraday high

LONDON, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The FTSE 100 index, Britain's blue-chip share index, closed at another record high on Tuesday after winning a new intraday high, following the previous peak set on Monday.

The index saw a gain of 22.27 points, finishing at 8,046.14 points, remaining below its intraday high of 8076 points, reached earlier on Tuesday.

Market sentiment was dampened due to remarks from Huw Pill, chief economist of the Bank of England, who made cautious comments on the cut of interest rate, causing the market to lose ground in the latter half of the trading day.

However, compared with its European peers, the index has only risen 4 percent this year, behind the 7 percent gains observed in the German and French stock markets.
