ZAGREB, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The annual Festival of Lights in Zagreb kicked off on Wednesday evening, drawing thousands of people to see visual installations and light art throughout the city's streets, parks and squares.

During the festival, which runs until Sunday, Croatian and international artists will use the latest projection technologies to transform ordinary spaces into captivating works of art.

"I am happy that the new edition of the festival starts on the first day of spring when nature is awakening ... and when citizens come out into the streets to see beautiful squares and architectural buildings in a new light," Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomasevic said at the opening of the festival.

Organized by the Zagreb Tourist Board, the festival boasts 29 attractions across the capital.

"The City of Zagreb is now popular among tourists who are visiting the festivals of lights around the globe, and it is really on their bucket list to visit Zagreb in spring," Martina Bienenfeld, director of the Zagreb Tourist Board, told Xinhua.

With an annual attendance of approximately 3 million visitors, the Festival of Lights is one of the most renowned events in Zagreb.
